I am heading to Chicago, and unfortunately, cannot get a table at Alinea. Moto and L20 are my next 2 choices. Which one would you recommend today (it’s now 2011)?

I just ate at L2O on Monday of this week. I’m sad to say, they still have not figured out how to cook halibut. It was completely overcooked. The salmon was better, but still not “perfect” The halibut… was awful.

Upsides: salt cod dish was very nice. The fluke starter was excellent. The wait service left much to be desired. Sad really. This restaurant could be much more, but it just misses on a few things. I’m surprised with so many instances of the same overcooked salmon/halibut, they haven’t either hired a new grill cook, or skipped the grilled option altogether.

another good seafood-based restaurant in chicago is “spring.” it’s not a michelin-level gastronomy place. but the level of cooking is quite high.
