I just ate at L2O on Monday of this week. I'm sad to say, they still have not figured out how to cook halibut. It was completely overcooked. The salmon was better, but still not "perfect" The halibut... was awful.

Upsides: salt cod dish was very nice. The fluke starter was excellent. The wait service left much to be desired. Sad really. This restaurant could be much more, but it just misses on a few things. I'm surprised with so many instances of the same overcooked salmon/halibut, they haven't either hired a new grill cook, or skipped the grilled option altogether.

another good seafood-based restaurant in chicago is "spring." it's not a michelin-level gastronomy place. but the level of cooking is quite high.

Good luck Laurent - I don't think there's a better itinerary for Chicago.

Jhsmith - no, they did not know I was there, for what that's worth.

incidentally, i just read that Esquire magazine named it the best new restaurant of the year:
http://www.esquire.com/features/new-restaurants-2008/best-new-restaurants-2008?src=syn&dom=yah_buzz&mag=esq&ha=1

considering what i know about their list (spruce, bar boulud), i'd take it with a grain of salt. their list seems to be more concerned with the design of the restaurants (all of them are quite pretty) instead of the actual food.

i guess that isn't surprising.
